Frequently asked questions

What happens if my bag is overweight?

Airlines charge an excess baggage fee, typically ₹300–800 per kg for domestic flights and higher for international. For IndiGo, pre-purchasing extra weight before the flight is cheaper than paying at the airport counter.

Is cabin baggage included in the check-in allowance?

No. Cabin (hand) baggage is a separate allowance, usually 7 kg. This calculator covers check-in baggage only. You can carry your hand baggage as an additional allowance.

Can I split the allowance across multiple bags?

Yes, the check-in allowance applies to the total weight across all bags, not per bag. However, each individual bag usually cannot exceed 23 kg due to handling regulations.

Do laptops count towards cabin baggage?

Yes, your laptop bag or backpack counts towards the cabin baggage allowance (usually 7 kg). Some airlines allow one personal item (handbag or laptop bag) separately in addition to the carry-on.

What are prohibited items in checked baggage?

Flammable liquids, gas cylinders, power banks above 100 Wh, lithium batteries over 160 Wh, and firearms (without prior BCAS clearance) cannot go in checked baggage. Liquids over 100 ml in cabin baggage require declaration.
