Grade Point Scale (10-Point)

Most Indian universities follow the UGC 10-point grading system. This calculator uses that system.

Grade Points
O (90–100) = 10 points
A+ (80–89) = 9 points
A (70–79) = 8 points
B+ (60–69) = 7 points
B (50–59) = 6 points
C (40–49) = 5 points
F (<40) = 0 points
Weighted GPA Formula
GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credits) ÷ Σ Credits
Example: Subject A gets 8 points × 4 credits = 32. Subject B gets 7 points × 3 credits = 21. GPA = (32+21) ÷ (4+3) = 7.57

Frequently asked questions

What credit hours should I enter?

Enter the credit hours assigned to each subject by your university. Typically, theory subjects have 3–4 credits and lab/practical subjects have 1–2 credits. Check your course curriculum. If you leave credits blank, all subjects are weighted equally.

How is GPA different from CGPA?

GPA (Grade Point Average) usually refers to a single semester's average. CGPA (Cumulative GPA) is the weighted average across all semesters of your degree program. This calculator computes GPA for the subjects you enter. Use our GPA Calculator for multi-semester CGPA.

What GPA is needed for good placements?

Most top IT companies like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro require a minimum GPA of 6.0 (60%). Product companies and premium roles typically require 7.5+ GPA. For government jobs (UPSC, SSC), academic performance is less emphasized. For higher studies (MS abroad), aim for 8.0+ GPA.

Does grade calculator work for CBSE?

CBSE uses a different system based on marks out of 100. Enter your CBSE marks in the "Marks" field and 100 in the "Max" field. This calculator will give you the equivalent grade on the 10-point scale, which is useful for university applications.

How do I improve my GPA in the next semester?

Focus on high-credit subjects as they have greater impact on your GPA. A poor grade in a 4-credit subject pulls your GPA down more than the same grade in a 1-credit subject. Target at least A (8 points) in high-credit core subjects.
