How to use the History Timeline Maker

Add Events

Enter the year (can be negative for BCE), the event title, and select a category. Click "Add Event" to add it to the timeline.

Colour Coding

Events are colour-coded by category: Political (green), Cultural (purple), Scientific (blue), Economic (amber), Military (red). This helps identify patterns at a glance.

Save as PDF

Click "Print / Save as PDF" and select "Save as PDF" in the print dialog. This lets you keep your timeline for offline revision.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add events from BCE (Before Common Era)?

Yes — enter negative year numbers for BCE. For example, enter -323 for 323 BCE (the death of Alexander the Great). The timeline will sort and display these correctly in chronological order.

Is my timeline saved between sessions?

No — the timeline is stored only in your browser session memory. If you close or reload the page, events will be lost. Use the Print / Save as PDF button to save your timeline before closing.

How many events can I add?

There is no hard limit. The timeline renders all events dynamically. For best readability on a printed page, we recommend keeping to 20–30 events per timeline. You can create multiple timelines for different periods or topics.

Can I edit an event after adding it?

Currently, you can delete events using the × button on each card. To edit, delete the event and re-add it with the correct information. This keeps the tool simple and fast.

What are the best topics to build timelines for?

Timelines work best for chronological topics in history, science, and current affairs. Good examples: Indian Independence Movement (1857–1947), World War II events, evolution of the Indian Constitution, development of modern physics, or any chapter with a sequence of dated events.
